Episode 10 – It’s All About the Kids – Clay Target Shooting
Can you imagine 30,000 high school student-athletes shooting clay targets with a shotgun? Welcome to the USA Clay Target League, the sanctioning body for the USA High School Clay Target League that features 800+ teams in more than 20 states. Approximately 30,000 student-athletes are a part of those 800+ teams. This week Marty visits with John Nelson, the President of the USA Clay Target League that was founded in 2008. Marty and John will talk about all things youth and team shooting and provide information about how you can start a high school team in your area. For the record, the USA High School Clay Target League is a part of the largest clay target event in the world – the Minnesota State High School Trap Shooting Championship. This event is over nine days and features more than 8,500 competitors – all high school student-athletes. John Nelson
John Nelson is the President of the USA Clay Target League headquartered in Mendota Heights, Minnesota. John oversees this organization that features clay target shooting leagues for approximately 30,000 student athletes in more than 20 states around the country. He has been with the organization since its founding in 2008. The organization has seen a meteoric rise in student participation since it started with three teams and 30 kids. Today the USA Clay Target League has more than 800 high school teams.
